What do we use to make our candles ?

All our products are 100% natural with no added chemicals. We only use natural soy wax, and therapeutic grade essential oils to make each and every one of our candles. Soy wax is a natural, vegan and biodegradable compound which provides a cleaner burn and is better for the environment. In addition, soy wax burns longer than paraffin wax, allowing you to enjoy your favourite candle for a longer period of time!
We also use 100% cotton, lead-free wicks that are free from zinc and other metal compounds, allowing for a cleaner, toxic free burn.

Why does my candle appear to have a rough, chalky or pitted top after burning?

This is a feature of soy wax and completely normal. The rough, bumpy tops after burning a soy wax candle are caused when the hot wax in the melt pool cools and solidifies at an inconsistent rate. This is extremely common in soy candles, and is a way to verify they are actually made from 100% soy wax.

Many manufacturers (not Elam ) will blend soy wax with paraffin wax to provide a smoother look. However, paraffin is a synthetic wax, derived from petroleum, and not all natural. Therefore, we do not use paraffin blends. All Elam candles are made with 100% soy wax and are all natural.

If you are burning your candles long enough, so that the wax pools connect and they burn evenly down, this rough look is mitigated.

How do I take care of my candle?

The first time you burn your candle, you will want to burn it for at least 2-3 hours; we recommend 4 hours if it is from the medium, large or BIG collection. This will help create a wider burn pool and will help your candle burn down evenly for future use. Any candles from our Small Collection are safe to burn for 2-3 hours each time. For all other collections, burning for periods of 3-4 hours at a time (or until the burn pools between the wicks connect) is recommended. *This is particularly important for candles with multiple wicks, you want your wax pools to connect.

You will want to trim your wicks after each burn or two (after they cool) so that they are no more than ¼ inch long. This will help maintain a controlled flame on the next burn, and prevent the wick from breaking off and falling into your wax pool.

If you have a candle that is meant for outdoor use, it is important to remember not to leave them out in the sun. If you leave your candle in direct sunlight, in the heat of summer, your candle will begin to sweat and eventually the wax will start to melt. You also do not want to let rain water get into your candle. If this happens accidentally, make sure to fully clean and dry it out before using again. If any leaves or debris blow into your candle, make sure to fully clean out before using.

When the wicks approach the bottom of your candle, discontinue usage when there is roughly ½ an inch of wax left. At that time, you can clean your candle out (see instructions on the refill page) and either use your container for it’s suggested reuse, or contact us for a refill.

My candle is burning down into potholes..what's going on?

If you're experiencing uneven burning or short burn times with your candles, it's not what we aim for at Elam. We want you to have a long-lasting, evenly burning candle every time. To fix this issue, try burning your candles for 3-4 hours at a time to allow the wick pools to join and reach the edges of the container. . If this doesn't solve the problem, please don't hesitate to contact us at contact.elamdecor@gmail.com for a complimentary refill.
